Call for Papers

Authors are invited to submit high-quality manuscripts reporting original unpublished research and recent developments in the topics related to the scope of the conference (see below). All papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed by Programme Committee members.

There are four different submission categories, all of which will be presented online:

  1. Full Papers, divided into two subcategories (up to 12 pages, excluding appendices):
    • Research papers (e.g., empirical, qualitative, quantitative, theory building, research methods, comparative studies, transferability of methods and results from other disciplines)
    • Best practice papers/country reports
  2. Short Papers, divided into two subcategories (up to 8 pages)
    • Position/discussion papers
    • Work in progress
  3. Posters (2-4 pages)
  4. Workshops and panel proposals (2-4 pages)

Accepted papers and poster abstracts will be included in the ISSEP 2021 local proceedings. Selected (top quality) full papers will be published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Conference scope

The main topics of the conference include but are not limited to:

  • Informatics curricula, programs, and courses
  • Pedagogies for informatics teaching and learning
  • Teacher education in Informatics
  • Learning/teaching resources for Informatics
  • Digital literacy and computational thinking
  • Connecting informatics education in formal, non-formal and informal learning environments
  • Informatics and digital literacy in contexts, for example, STEAM education
  • Informatics education and digital citizenship
  • Engagement and empowerment strategies
  • Broadening participation and diversity
  • Sustainable education

Work submitted to ISSEP should be novel and material that has been previously published should not be republished unless the work has been significantly revised. Note, however, that while novel work is highly valued, constructive replication of previous studies can also be a significant contribution, and a new interpretation or evaluation of previously published work can make a good contribution.

Submission guidelines

The papers will be submitted through EasyChair: Link here.

As the papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed, the authors should leave their names and affiliations blank in the submission, and take care to avoid details in the article that could be used to identify the authors. These include institution information, specific funding information and clear self-citations.

Submissions must be formatted according to the Springer LNCS style guidelines using LaTeX. The maximum length of the paper (including references, but excluding the optional appendix) is 12 pages. For online Latex editors, see e.g. Overleaf and ShareLatex. Abstract length — 200-300 words.

To prepare a paper for LNCS proceedings authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCID in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of the paper, must complete and sign a Consent to Publish Form (either for Springer LNCS or for local proceedings in CEUR-WS). The corresponding author signing the copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. Once the files have been sent to Springer, changes relating to the authorship of the papers cannot be made.

To prepare a poster or proposal for a workshop or panel (2-4 pages) for the Local Proceedings authors are recommended to use Springer proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word.
